I’ve always been a collector of quotes and sayings. I inherited this addiction at an early age from my father who was always sharing poems, quotes, and sayings.  Some of his all-time favorites would be repeated so many times that my siblings and I would end up unintentionally memorizing them. When I left the hills of my small town in Croydon, Utah, I was sure to load up with a case of quotes and sayings to accompany me on my journey in life. 

I fell in love with one of my cute classmates from high school named, Blaine.  He soon became my constant traveling partner.  While journeying through life with our five children and four grandchildren, we learned some valuable lessons and faced some devastating trials.   

When my husband’s visit to the doctor for a simple hernia resulted in a diagnosis of stage IV Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, I knew we were in for a ride.  The lane change of a summer filled with sunshine abruptly shifted to a detour to doctor visits, surgeries, and lengthy rounds of chemotherapy.  The reality began to drip deep into my heart like the doses of “Red Devil” that dripped into my husband’s port with each chemo treatment - assigned to destroy the enemy within. Mile after mile, trip after trip, I witnessed my burley husband shrink to a small, framed man with missing muscle.  It didn’t take long for me to sink into the potholes of pity as I marinated in my misfortunes while the song, “Why Me” played over and over on my internal station. 

Throughout the trials, not a day went by that I didn’t receive an early morning text from Dad that included a little daily dose of didacticism; some serious, some spiritual, some punny, and some just plain witty.  Little by little, day by day, Dad’s words began to resonate within - eventually taking root.   Over time, I used the strength from Dad’s words to power up and change the internal station to re-play, “Why Not Me?” and accept our pile of challenges and plow through them with positivity.  The desire to share Dad’s dailies eventually made its way into greeting cards for you to enjoy.

Thus, Mama B’s Messages sprang to life. Each day we focus on sending out a personalized message.  Each message sent results in slivers of sunshine that seeps into our souls and leaves us with feelings of unconditional love towards others.
